Eeben has hit the nail on the head.

PMC's can work, and have worked in the past. The problem comes in with the application of discipline, direction, no code of conduct.

Basically waht are these companies hired for? What is the scope of there deployment, if in a military role, then use the military, if in a secuirty roll these use security.

Military action should remain the soul discretion of the government, by "palming" it out to contractor, is going to open a world of hurt for the recipant and the paymaster!

Alleagtions I have heard of PMC running riot and causing more problems than they are worth seems to be the general concesus nowadays.

If PMC are to improve there public relations, then they have got to start looking at the public they serve, and start building positive realtionships with these people and the local police.

Any breach of discipline the person(s) involved are to be detained and removed from the area with out delay. PMC's cannot have these beahvoiur taking place.

Ad Reagards Rest and Recovery (R&R) (BNO - for those who remember) should be designed around the situation these person(s) are deployed.

If the country has a NO ALOCOHOL policy, then no alocohol! For example - so alternative arrangements need to be made.

This is going to be and on going deabte for a long time, and the viability and usability of PMC are going to be dictated by the Politics of the day! No matter what the current outcome is.

ALl the best to those who are doing right! God Bless and Keep safe!
